Bagged & Tagged Records is the brainchild of DJ Warden, an artist who’s paved his way across the underground drum & bass scene and he has created Bagged & Tagged to catapult his listeners into absolute chaos without restrictions. He’s also begun to add to the London based label’s roster, drawing in a host of budding producers to help platform Bagged & Tagged’s dedication to the inherently dark corners of drum & bass. For this release, DJ Warden has called upon Vital to deliver a cut throat EP which detonates six different loads of bass-driven madness. Between the call-to-arms of title-track ‘Mayhem’, to the dancefloor-lead peddles of Vital and Warhead’s collaboration ‘Lovin’ Life’, Vital hits the spot with his forthcoming release.
Second on the track listing is Vital’s ‘Real Shit’, following ‘Mayhem’ and going for the throat with streaming drums and cutting bass jabs. Vital & Phenom’s ‘Hoe Money’ adds to the EP’s diverse musical colours, but never pulling on the brakes and living up to Vital’s snapping reputation. ‘Taking Over Me’ is a track which drops the gear and drives forward at a dizzying speed, totally enveloping you in its power whilst also adding a coolness which has become a staple for Vital. ‘Fruitcake Riddim’ drops you to a more manic level, ducking and diving between layers of carefully refined sound whilst still pushing through with the jutting production standard which flows through each one of his records. Then finally, Vital & Warhead’s ‘Lovin’ Life’ comes next with its old-school riddims and pumping subs which leaves an after taste that ruminates across your synapses. That’s why Vital will leave a lasting impression on Bagged & Tagged’s expanding audience; lead by an artist like DJ Warden, Vital and the imprint he’s due to release on looks like they won’t be stepping down from their pedestal anytime soon.
