Alexis K and Unsub have one key trait in common; they share the same body. Both projects of electronic producer Lily Luck , she also has a third project under the moniker n0isemakeR , and collectively their music has received consistent airplay from radio stations across the world including the popular Australian tastemakers Triple J and the highly influential Ibiza Radio. Unsub is no stranger to charts either, as ‘Heartstrings’ and Unsub ’s remix of Spenda C ’s ‘Getting Dumb’ spent 5 weeks and 2 weeks on the ARIA Dance Chart Top 50 respectively as well as her critically acclaimed remix of Ill-Esha ’s ‘Only Fair’ which topped Beatports charts where it remained at #1 for an impressive 6 weeks and she’s been a consistent charter on Juno . Alexis K ’s music has been featured in MTV ’s American Dance Legends , NZ Body Art Awards and Generation Bass Transnational Dubstep Compilation which has received worldwide acclaim along with being named the artist of the week on BBC Asian Network ’s Friction Presents . Alexis K has done a hugely popular remix for global rock sensation Linkin Park , with her dubstep version receiving up to 7.3 million views on Youtube alone.
Luck taught herself how to play the drums at an early age, before eventually transposing her skills to the guitar. She has been surrounded by music her whole life seeing as her father was a guitarist and shaped her approach to musical production and allowed her to experiment with her own style. Not binding herself to a single genre of music, Lily has been creating music under a host of pseudonyms spanning across a multitude of genres including Alexis K , Unsub , n0isemakeR , Kidsader , Reiko Che , Josie Gets Naked , Slightly , Sub Affair , Akuce and the band Madison.
Lily draws inspiration across the musical spectrum with notable rock acts like Jack White , Deftones and Tool , while simultaneously looking towards experimental electronic acts such as Burial , Bonobo , Portishead and Massive Attack as a muse. The Misadventures of Pilbourne Delaney would easily be a fit for fans of drum and bass acts like Omni Trio , LTJ Bukem , or Blu Mar Ten while still maintaining the jazz/blues influences of names like Miles Davis or Herbie Hancock.
The latest full-length release from Alexis K and Unsub is a 13-track dubstep and guitar driven amalgamation of Lily’s talents as it spans across a multitude of genres, never ceasing to take a break. It’s clear that the intention of The Misadventures of Pilbourne Delaney is to get your body to the club and set it loose on the dancefloor. It includes a wide variety of genres from hard rock guitar riffs, high-intensity dub wobbles, hard-hitting drum and bass breakdowns, and uplifting piano melodies sprinkled throughout. Tracks like the title track, The Misadventures of Pilbourne Delaney’ , ‘State of Play’ and ‘Blushing Pilgrim’ will ensure a club-ready rhythm as they combine elements of metal, DnB and that ever-present dub-wobble bass. It’s not all upbeat though, as you can also expect ambient/downtempo tracks such as ‘Dysania’, ‘Soul Traffic’ , and ‘Blindsided ’. A skill Alexis K and Unsub truly shows off on this LP is subverting the listener's expectations. Tracks like ‘Osiris’ , ‘ Wild Tigers I Have Known ’ and ‘ the uber sexy ‘ Candles Under The Sun ’ will catch you off guard in only the best of ways; be sure to give these tracks a longer listen, as they transform into pure majesty. The whole album combines intricate piano melodies, sultry guitar chords and minimal use of vocal samples, with each song keeping you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what Alexis K and Unsub will conjure up next.
On the creation of this LP , Lily comments, “‘ The Misadventures of Pilbourne Delaney’ was a musical experiment in expressing a deeply emotional journey across a myriad of styles, being held together by the simple idea that no matter what is expressed, it can be danced to. Influenced by real instrumentation to bring a kind of raw realism to electronic music that often can't be achieved with pure synthesis. The recording of instruments takes the energy of the room, the person playing and the emotion being felt, which is the closest to an emotional truth you can get as a musician trying to capture that in an album.”
