Label: Hyperactivity
Catalog Number: HYP-014
Based out of Marseille, French drum & bass imprint Hyperactivity Music has become a resounding part of its burgeoning scene, with the independent label showcasing a host of releases throughout 2018 which have become a turning point for the label. Although its head honcho, BRK, has already made his name renowned whilst being involved in bass culture from a young age. He’s built himself as an activist for the music he loves, touring globally and debuting Hyperactivity Music releases across the world, whether that’s on the pivotal airwaves of Rinse FM, or Outlook Festival in Croatia. So it comes as little surprise that BRK would be able to pull in some of the most explosive talents into his grasps for Hyperactivity Music. With such an extensive tour schedule, he can experience what the world has to offer and with that comes great music as well as the artists who’ve produced it.
One of these artists is PEYO. However, he’s not necessarily a newcomer – since 1996, he’s been dropping a series of records on the likes of Good Looking, Bingo, Influenza Media and more, building his profile whilst remaining on the pulse as production standards have changed. Having already been debuted on BBC Radio 1, his vast repertoire of sounds has enabled him to catch the ears of tastemakers throughout each dance music subgenre. His forthcoming EP ‘Elevate’ is no different. It demonstrates the full spectrum which PEYO has in hands, whether it’s the jungle-inspired breakdowns of its title-track, or the more mid-tempo roller ‘Ghost Bird’. ‘High Flight’ takes on a totally different direction from the EP’s first half. It’s shifting percussive layers, distorted sonics and stabbing vocals present an effortless descent into the lighter hues of PEYO’s production. ‘Midnight Sunset’ brings the EP to a close, once again on the softer side of PEYO’s musicality with pitching synths and carefully sequenced beat patterns. Hyperactivity delivers yet another effortless slice of diversity with their next release. One more factor explaining their rising success, not just within drum & bass, but across the full scope of dance music and its furthest reaches.
