The minimalistic yet expertly manufactured vibes prevalent throughout EIZO’s forthcoming EP are one of the primary reasons Hyperactivity Music brought him into their roster. The Marseille drum & bass label managed by BRK has brought through exciting new prospects over the last few months and they are continuing to do so with acts like EIZO. With three brand new tracks from both the artist and label, their expanding audiences are about to be drawn into the ethos which both EIZO and Hyperactivity Music stand for. And the ‘Issues EP’ is the start of this journey, cutting through the more commercial output available within drum & bass and instead providing a slick alternative. Between title-track ‘Issues’ and 1979, each track offered on the EP provides a look into the production standard given a platform by Hyperactivity Music.
Beginning the EP is ‘Issues’, a record which slices forward on a construction line of beats and a pumping bassline which adds a heavier element to the track’s composition. The intro begins to wind up steadily, with each cutting set of metallics pushing through the mix, before it cascades into a no-holds barred attack on the aural nerves. Next up, ‘6millions’ enters the fray, pushing forward on unrestrained layers of heavyweight distortion and stabs of bass which create an eventual climb to its drop. The French producer ensures that every taste is catered for, whether that is through his tech-layered simplicity or his heavy basslines; this EP is a perfect example of that.
Completing the ‘Issues’ EP is ‘1979’, a record which once again reiterates EIZO’s divergence from the norm whilst still maintaining the kind of dancefloor appeal which resonates throughout each of his tracks, with an unwieldy rhythm that ducks and dives between its expertly created segments. Every snapping beat helps to add to EIZO’s production signature, one which is dominant throughout ‘1979’ and one which has crafted him a clear sonic personality. And this is why EIZO’s longevity as an artist is apparent on first listen. The ‘Issues’ EP is just the beginning, featuring three cuts which continue to define him as an artist.
