Drum & bass producers Battery have been a frequent guest on many labels which have shaped the genre’s landscape. Including names such as Metalheadz, Valve, Ram Records, Hospital, Renegade Hardware and many more, their music has stretched a wide variety of catalogues and platforms, helping them to become a defining force. For their forthcoming release, the producers join Horizons Music for an EP which will align listeners with the production levels they've spent years refining. Showcasing five outstanding tracks, the ‘Range of View’ EP is an expansive journey through their production style. The release demonstrates an understanding of drum & bass that stretches across the ages and one that has enabled them to come under the radar of historic pedestals such as Horizons Music.
‘Range of View’ begins with opening track ‘Synchronization’. For new fans, it’s an introduction to the Battery sound but this time through the instruction of Horizons Music and it perfectly encapsulates what Battery stands for. This is high levels of musicality whilst also ensuring an underlying weightiness. ‘Transistor Bass’ follows the same ethos, paying homage to the old school and proving that Battery stay close to their roots. ‘Range of View’ is next, focusing on its percussion and emo vocal slicing through with each planted patch of sound. ‘Whodini’ is just as intricate, however its rolling breaks and haunted horn riffs give it a harder drive. It’s a track which highlights the more biting side of Battery, one that could easily take you back to the club nights which made drum & bass such an identifiable force. ‘Low Down’ brings the EP to a close with a nod to their early days on Valve Recordings. Blistering beats and distorted 808 basslines combine with smoothed out jazzy samples and crunched up breathy vocals pitching between each thumping layer, ‘Range of View’ is an EP that equally demonstrates what both Horizons Music and Battery are about. Staying true to their foundations and only offering the most upfront cuts.
