New Zealand-born producer/DJ Azifm returns to Must Make Music with his third EP on the imprint - the first since his relocation to the UK Bass music hub of Bristol. Drawing on the lineage and traditions of his native New Zealand, whilst incorporating newly understood UK club-culture sensibilities, this 4 track collection has a great sense uniqueness, richness, and identity; showcasing the up-and-coming producers' breadth of abilities.
The EP title 'rakahuri connection' speaks of the origins of Aidan Morris, and the birth of Azifm - the artist. The rakahuri (The Ashley River) is a river in his hometown that holds memories of childhood summers swimming and surfing with friends. And, at 16, it was where he played his first DJ gig at River Parties - as the North Canterbury locals referred them. Azifm was born.
With a number of tracks on the EP starting their life in New Zealand, they were then transported to the other side of the world and completed with a new set of sensibilities, in a new city, and with a new mindset. This body of work is a timestamp for Azifm - marking this moment in his life and musical career.
