JDNB Interview: Volatile Cycle

Volatile Cycle are a dynamic drum and bass duo hailing from Norfolk, UK, known for their high-energy beats and innovative soundscapes. Their music is characterized by its relentless pace and atmospheric depth, captivating audiences and pushing the boundaries of drum and bass.
With releases on C4C Recordings, Renegade Hardware, Bad Taste Recordings and most recently Evolution Chamber alongside Dropset and Konquest with 'Close Your Eyes'. We thought we would have a quick chat and find out more about them and the latest release.
Hi and thanks for talking to us here at JDNB. First of all, introduce yourself and tell us what tune got you into drum and bass?
Afternoon I’m Dan 1 half of VC, and the tune that got me into DNB was either bulletproof 101 degrees instantly followed by hazard rubber chicken, talk about covering the spectrum in two tunes!
How have you seen the Neuro scene develop over the years?
So many mad artists now to look out for, whereas 10 years ago i would maybe only really get properly excited to check out a handful of peoples new releases. Its mental.
What's your go to studio snack?
Good Q. Mood dependent, but more than likely aero mint with a cuppa.
Your latest track ‘Close Your Eyes’, out now on Evolution Chamber, is a huge epic link up with Konquest and Dropset. How did you find the process of making the track with the others?
We've got a few ways we tackle tunes now, this one was started with Matty (Konquest) layin down a basic idea and we just grew it around that, as long as we are all vibing with where its going then thats the main thing!
It's not your first time working together as a collective either is it? Guessing you must love working together?
I've been working with Jimmy (other half of VC) literally from the start of my producing career so I’ve always found it easy to vibe with other people when it comes to producing, when everyone has a different talent too then it makes it all the more simple and fun to crack some eggs and see what germinates!
I hear there may be an alias in the pipeline?
Its definitely been something we need to think about for a while, if the tunes keep coming thick and fast then yeah, why not!
What advice would you give to any aspiring producers that are looking to get their tracks heard by the major labels?
Don’t think everything you’ve made is brilliant straight away. Only send your very best work, and don't give up if it's a no!
What are your Top 3 Evolution Chamber tracks?
I love Malux and am a sucker for “Nosedive” and “Mammoth”, Ekwols is a mentalist as well but I think I’ll have to go with Magnetude & Burr Oak’s ‘’I Want You’’. Daft tune!
What can we expect from you in the future, any more releases on Evolution Chamber?
I very much hope so! Got one more in the pipeline coming up that is probably my fave of the 3 with the boys, so yeah that's definitely something to keep an eye out for!
Thanks so much for your time, lastly any thanks or shout outs?
Huge shout to the Evo Chamber boysies, and in particular James at Magnetude because christ he has to hear a lot of waff from us lot- on the daily!
