JDNB Interview - Fuelized

Hey, thanks for chatting to us. You're in Belgium right?

Yes, that’s correct.

Tell us about your DJ name, what it means, what it represents to you and your home town?

Back into 2015 I decided to start spinning & making music and I quickly realized I needed an alias. At first it was “Paranoized” but after realizing the real meaning of paranoia decided to get rid of that part. Always still liked the ized part, so then I switched to “Fuelized” which kept the ized, but removed the paranoia!

Label: Good4Nothing Records UK
Track: Stay with A to C

So you're 23 right? When did you first start listening to dnb and do you like any other genres?

Yes, born and raised in 1998 I’m 23 years old and my 24th birthday comes around the corner in April. Time never stops, so use it wisely.

The internet has been crucial for you and your knowledge of dnb right? Youtube?

That’s correct, as 11 year old guy it mainly was UKF that inspired me back in the days. They have a certain kind of style in their uploads from the early beginnings, which I always adored. I learned a lot from online tutorials production wise but also just from searching the world wide web for sounds, tracks or any information regarding electronic music production.

What track got you into dnb?

The track that got me into drum ‘n’ bass is definately “Pendulum - Blood sugar”.  I discovered this track on youtube back in 2010, and always got me excited for what’s coming next dnb-wise. Especially the sentence: “It’s drum & bass, what you gonna do?” together with an unforgettable arrangement of drums, synths and melodic basslines awakened my passion for Drum ‘n’ bass till today.

What are your top 5 tracks right now?

  1. Junkmail Feat Marianna Ray - Fire & water
  2. Rohaan - Burner
  3. DJ Fresh - Gold dust (Tsuki Remix)
  4. CydeFX - Soul
  5. Refracta - Diesel

Tell us about where you have DJed so far and your favourite DJ experiences.

I have spinned music in the Netherlands 4 times (once in Amsterdam in a bar on Wednesday evening, recently first time in Rotterdam at Explicit in Now & wow club, once in Eindhoven for a livestream hosted by Rararadio and once in Maastricht wich was State of unrest at Complex Maastricht) also spinned once in Germany back in 2020 together with Giga impact, this was in the city called “Chemnitz” close to the Czech republic border where we have been invited by a german dance crew called “DNBChemnitz”.

Also been 5 times in the UK for livestreams/events. First time UK was back in 2017 when i was still 18 years young. Back then i got booked by “Mass attack” for an event called Primitive at the Volks Club at the Pier in Brighton, after that got a couple of times invited at Rough Tempo. First time in the Banger after bBanger showcase from Jaydee and also the sub low show from Gi Jones, after that The Jumped Up Takeover (which was the most recent Rough tempo livestream).

So production, what are you using as a DAW, and favourite VSTs?

As DAW, I use Fl studio 20 also known as fruity loops. Started to work with this software from version 10 and always instantly changed to the newer version as soon as it got released, which asks a big learning curve because the programs change within each update, usually for a better & more fluent workflow.

Do you mix and master your own tracks?

Yes, I do mix and master my own tracks. Mixdown is a long process and requires multiple skills to complete. First of all a clean daw with all necessary tools/VST’s installed, a good set of speakers helps as well, same for the room you’re creating the music in.

Which labels inspire you and why?

- The number 1 label that inspires me must be Low Down Deep especially when spinning their earlier/recent releases in my mixtapes, nearly each event. The style of drums combined with a clean arrangement of synths/basses and a tight mixdown might make you understand why i like this label so much. After all, each release was a sick one and in my opinion, that’s what labels are about. Also their artist list is pretty mental from the first day that the label exists.

Do you like MCs?

Yes I do like MC’s on a set, especially when playing at Rough Tempo in the UK the vibes always hit different. Had sets hosted before by: DNA, Scotfree and on my own streams back in 2020 D-BRO hosted a set as well. When playing Jump Up, I must say that it adds.

So you started making music in 2016? Tell us about that journey so far.

After started spinning music, back in November 2015. I realized that i could create something and spin that, across the tracks i already bought at that time. In this way you can create a more unique set because the track you made is not yet available for others. It’s also just a passion to start with an empty sheet, and fill it up with what ever crosses your mind at that specific moment. From percussion layers, to risers and vocals. It’s something where you can not say i’m done, and that’s what made it so interesting for me from the very early beginning.

Any finished tracks we can hear?

At this point, the only one that will be confirmed to release soon is the collab with A to C from Tokyo, Japan. The track is called “Let me stay” and signed to Good4Nothing Records from DJ Complex and will be released soon somewhere this year.

AlsoI dropped a free download a couple of days ago, recently made with D-Revenger. This is a bootleg from “Somebody to love” by Basstrology.

Do you like festivals?

Yes i like festivals, one i remember from 2019 was Rampage Open Air at Kristalpark in Lommel, this festival was mental for real. Also Univerz festival, beats for charity festival & jeugd feesten are festivals i played at the last years.

What do you think about the JDNB website?

I think it’s a decent website after a first checkup, promoting events & artists from across the world is definitely a nice goal for the site. It’s decent exposure as you already have well known artists on the website, who make decent music as well.

Where do you go for dnb news?

Usually it would be facebook or instagram in different kind of dnb groups (especially on facebook).

So you have been doing music production with Heist now for 3 years? Tell us about that?

I followed -1-2-1 music tuition from Heist indeed, divided over 3 years we arranged several remote sessions via skype where he showed me the basics from music production, together with a more in depth view of how he made his tracks. For me it was a huge inspiration, as Heist was an idol already from me before even starting with the tuition program.

Across 6 sessions, Jim (Heist) showed me around the most important tools inside a DAW and how to use them properly. Also where to get decent sounds and how to construct them together to a nice hitting drum roll for example. Learned a lot from him in these 3 years.

Still very thankful for it!

If I saw you at the bar, what are you drinking?

Probably some Red-Bull and depending if i still have to spin or not some booze ;)

What would be your perfect line up?

A perfect lineup for me is the combination from names that are doing really well in the scene right now with mental artists from all across Europe. This combined in 1 nice package attracts a lot of people, as they see a lot of their idols on 1 place for a decent price.

The venue is more then half of the decision, locations are crucial in this industry and i’m still amazed by how beautiful some of these venues in Europe actually are! Not only from size, but also where it’s located and how the light shows evolve each time different.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I want to keep making those daily steps as producer and dj, while having fun doing it.

What are your fav radio stations or shows in Belgium?

My favorite Belgian radio station is definetely Studio Brussel because they often spin drum ‘n’ bass. My favorite Belgian radio/internet show must be Bass junk digital as i’ve been there around 6/7 times the last ⅚ years.

Tell us about your personality traits, your good ones and your bad ones....

  • I like to be organized in all the things i do, especially regarding music production.
  • Usually i skip breakfast and i know it’s the most important meal of the day.

Do you have any favorite quotes or sayings?

  • Earth without art is just eh
  • Music is the strongest form of magic
  • Wisdom is better than silver or gold

Whats up next for you?

Chill2chill presents: “The diagnosis” at Espace Georges Truffaut in Liège

Thanks for your time! All the best for 2022 and beyond, and good luck with your forthcoming releases and gigs.
